About the role:
You will lead a team which carries out gardening maintenance and presentation of Wānaka CBD gardens and streets ensuring they are maintained to a high standard.

Responsibilities of the role:
  • Ensuring Wanaka Gardens, including Wanaka Station Park are maintained to a high standard using horticultural best practice.
  • Ensuring Wanaka townships cleanliness is kept to a high standard.
  • Monitoring staff performance to foster effective performance management of all staff.
  • Delivering on the job training, staff verification and staff assessment.
  • Assisting with recruitment and overall staff management.
  • Overseeing and managing of rosters.
  • Monitoring and controlling the budget for the horticulture department, ensuring responsible resource allocation.

What you'll bring:
You are an experienced operational leader and will have 5+ years of supervisory experience, 3+ years in a Horticultural role, and a proven ability to manage teams and resources effectively. You will have strong Team Leadership skills and will oversee a team instilling QLDC’s values of honesty and integrity. Strongplanning, organisational skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential. This role also involves overseeing depot and fleet activities, including the operation of machinery, and requires a good level of physical fitness.

  • Proven experience leading a team
  • Level four Tertiary Qualification in a relevant discipline or experience to an equivalent level is required
  • A strong commitment to health & Safety in the workplace
  • A current NZQA affiliated First Aid Certificate
  • NZ Drivers licence
  • Class 2 desirable
